My Top Five Easiest Houseplants

Updated: Oct 30, 2020

Are you someone who’s tired of killing their houseplants? Or perhaps a plant beginner who simply isn’t sure where to start? Well, don’t worry because I’ve got you covered with my top five easiest houseplant picks!

Any of these houseplants would be perfect to add to your own collection as they’re easy to grow and almost seem to thrive off of neglect.

So, without further ado, check out my list and hopefully you’ll find that there’s a plant best suited for you – whether you’re a plant expert or beginner!

1. Snake Plant (Sansevieria trifasciata)

The snake plant, also known as the mother-in-law’s tongue due to its hard and sharp leaves, is an incredibly tough indoor plant. While indirect sunlight is ideal, this plant can handle low light and also withstand full sun. Watering is only required when the soil feels dry, which is not too often!

2. Devil’s Ivy (Epipremnum aureum)

As suggested by its devilish name, this trailing plant has a reputation for being hard to kill! The leaves can vary in colour, with lighter varieties preferring brighter indirect light; however, they adapt well to any indoor environment due to their south-eastern Asian origins. Watering is easy, as dry soil or droopy leaves are clear signs of dehydration.

3. Pink Elephant Bush (Portulacaria afra)

This small-leaved succulent isn’t only attractive due to its stunning pink, white and green variation, but also because it’s super easy to care for! It thrives in bright light and, being a drought tolerant succulent, has very minimal water requirements. Oh, it’s also considered a good luck plant – yes please!

4. Chain of Hearts (Ceropegia woodii)

Characterised by its cute heart-shaped leaves, this trailing semi-succulent may appear dainty at first, but don’t be fooled as it’s indeed tough! It tolerates dryness extremely well and isn’t picky with sunlight; however, to achieve intense pink and purple tones in variegated varieties, full sun is appreciated!

5. Monstera (Monstera deliciosa)

Last, but certainly not least, is the monstera with its large and abundant foliage. This gorgeous tropical plant can adapt to various light and watering conditions. It’s also a perfect beginner’s plant as you’ll find that it’s very forgiving and can bounce back from potential mistakes!
